Fireworks & Bonfire

Fire, debris from spent fireworks, fumes, and product failure

The public, committee, staff and volunteeers

The firing area and bonfire will be contained behind a metal fence, with access to the area being strictly restricted to Selstar staff, emergency services, and authorised committee members only.

AT NO TIME WILL THE PUBLIC HAVE ACCESS TO THE FIREWORK FIRING AREA, BONFIRE OR IT’S IMMEDIATE VICINITY.

A full risk assessment has been carried out by Selstar staff.

The area is outdoors and so well ventilated.

Two water storage tanks will be onsite to aid the fire brigade with water supplies if needed.

Selstar employ spotters to watch the public area for falling debris, in addition stewards will be strategically scattered throughout the crown to watch for and report back on any debris falling into the public arena.

A final risk assessment is made minutes prior to the firing of the first firework to establish wind strength and direction. Only if it is safe will the display go ahead

To avoid confusion, stewards will use a different radio frequency from Selstar, reporting any problems directly to the event manager.

During the firing of the display only the event manager and health & safety adviser will have radio contact with Selstar. They will call for an immediate halt to the display if at any time the public are in danger.

A procedure exists if the event must be cancelled for any reason.

Fire Brigade onsite will also be based as close to this area as is safe.
